Comments: Shahryar Jan, I am so sorry to hear that. Here is a regime which arrests and executed attorneys who defended people like your nephew, yet journalists. The only journalists left are the ones who work for the government or are journalist / interrogators. Over 100 nokhbeh Sharif University students aged 18-22 are in Evin prison. I heard a few of them were burnt to death in the recent fire which the regime purposely created. My prayer is with your nephew. It is such a heartbreak. Justice will prevail.

Comments: Arash jan and KAmkar azize ma, I completely understand your feelings and will support you all the way. I am also in complete agreement with you two and Zinsky that this World Cup has lost something for all of us. In fact, what I have not shared with anyone just yet, is that my nephew who is a journalist and had been very active in protests has been detained by the forces, and is scheduled to be tried in open court. What I am hearing is they want them to be executed, which I certainly hope is not the case. I am putting this contest together so, we have a escape from all of that, albeit a very brief one. We are a very small community that support each other throughout all these years, and I am not abandoning my doostan on this page. I feel that following the games, which I consider them to be the tournament of people by the people and for the people, encourages decent and bravery among our people, the real Iranians. I really hope that people in the government wake up and see what s going on..., and make changes for the better and I mean soon,. Release all prisoners immediately and start making major concessions and bring our beautiful nation up to a modern standard. If you two decide to change your mind and participate in this friendly gesture towards solidarity with our people, you are most welcome, but I also understand your stance and support you.

Comments: kAmkAr Jaan, I feel for you. Unfortunately, this site has too many pests without admin deleting massages. The other site is too much control by admin to delete any posts he doesn’t like, for any reason. I wish there was a middle but we live in a funny times. As far as not being excited about WC due to situation in Iran, I also understand. This is the 1st WC I can remember that I have no plans to watch the games with friends or family. I’m going to watch the games but it’s not the same. Excitement is just not there.

Returning after a long absence
One interesting thing that happened while playing with Nicaragua was the return of Ramin Rezaian to TM after a long absence. He finally played for Iran at Azadi Stadium after a long time. Ramin, who also missed the Austrian camp due to visa issues, benefited more than any other player from the changes in Iran's coaching staff before the World Cup. He now has to go through an uphill battle with Sadiq Moharrami to get fixed in the World Cup roster.
