I sent you an update on the scoring sheet. Bad news, Parviz is still in first place, and Zinsky in 2nd place :))

I personally did well having the highest point for the day, mainly due to Japan's 1-1- prediction. So, now I am tied for 3rd place with Max :)) I am sure this won't last long.

These blow out results are usually bad strategy/coaching. Iran would have not lost this badly. All CQ's critiques are quiet in a game like this. It is true that his strategies are defensive, but this is the alternative for teams at our level. You cannot go out attacking every game otherwise, you will run into a result like today's Korea game, or the other day's USA game!

I came closest in the prediction contest with predicting a 1-1- but I thought Japan would prevail. I got 6 points still (no bonus point). 

Nach is the only other contestant who predicted a 2-2 tie; so he gets the 4 points, but since he correctly selected Croatia to win the PKs, he gets the bonus point for 5 points.

Comments:

Japan's penalties were all on the ground; except for the one that was a goal. PKs should be at shoulder-level, to have a >80% chance of success. Ground levels have a 40% chance of success.

I used to teach this to my players years ago.

Shame indeed; Japan was the better team; but felt they didn't belong. Lack of confidence kills PKs.

I think we would have given Netherlands a lot more challenge than United States did. The Dutch put the US away with too much ease!

We also regularly give Korea and Japan a lot of trouble in Asia. We have not played Japan a lot, but I believe, we have only lost to Korea once in the last 10 years! And that was thanks to the incompetent Skocic.
