LOL, English Premier League is certainly very good, but I believe the Italian's Serie A and Bundesliga and even Spanish leagues are at least as good if not better. But you are correct that they have had a lot of problems getting though to the finals after 1966.

Comments: It’s amazing how we talk about TM, it’s players and coaching staff without looking at the big picture. We still assume this is a normal team playing normal games. In all reality, nothing is normal in Iran. After 40+ years, we have used to abnormal. We watch the games with a lens of passionate fans. We truly wish and hope that this player or that one can create magic. We look at coaching staff to come up with a plan to help the dysfunctional system. We are happy when the team wins without any long term plans and get disappointed when we lose. This WC was probably the worst possible way for TM to perform. New, old coach, no preparation, political pressure from all sides, intimidation and threats, divided fans and bunch of old players who had little motivation. Blame the coaches or the players or anything else for that matter. The fact that they showed up and played when fans were calling them names and government agents were recording their every move is by itself a victory for any group of players. Team Melli will never reach its potential under this system.
