Rahim,

I repost in case you missed my questions.

What is your take on the situation in Iran for the past 3-4 months? What is the solution to help people? Do you see real issues effecting average Iranians back home?

Fred, we have a ton in common! I also was trained as an electrical engineer. When I graduated, I also had a hard time finding a job as an electrical engineer. Engineering job market was not good at all that year! I ended up at the university teaching and has been since then, but never in electrical engineering. [smile] I got into Biochemistry, then neuroscience, genetics, and now pulmonary infectious diseases! Long journey!

Wow, I learned so much form this conversation! Farid welcome and would love to hear about your journey from Iran to Australia more! Most of us left Iran quite a long time ago and so, am wondering how your experience differed from ours.

Rashti that is funny to me too. In Iran my generation grew up with bootlegged ninja turtle movies. :) The resemblance is uncanny. :)

Thank you for the laughter before bed.

Very nice to meet you Fred through this board. I am a medical school student and am finishing my second year here at UWA which is a lot of studying. They keep us busy and so, have little time here and there outside of studying. But have been visiting and will try to contribute whenever I can. In May, I will start my rotations and am hoping to have more time then.

It is great to know another Iranian (I am assuming you are from Iran) who has lived here for so long and is well established. It is a shame that we are clear across Australia from each other! Would love to meet you when the occasion comes along.

By the way, are you retired or still teaching? I seriously considered going into electrical engineering. I used to be good in math and even participated in the math Olympiad. But, in the end, like all other Iranian parents, mine wanted me to go into Medicine. Applied to a lot of places and was able to get into UWA after about two years of struggling. I also had a "paziresh" from the Philippines, but UWA came along and so, here I am.

Hi Farid
I came to Australia 52 years ago to Queensland and live an hour north of Brisbane. I studied Mathematics and electrical engineering but since the demand for electrical engineers was mainly in mining areas, I started to teach Mathematics and physics to secondary and tertiary students. I have been teaching for over 40 years.
With thanks   Fred from Australia
