Comments: Faramarz, That is very true. You might get enough sun that would provide extra, even with battery. My question is if you can determine when to release power back to Grid from battery. We don't have the time of the day use pricing. I was part of the design for SDG&E to have that happening there. It requires smart metering which is not available here yet.
Comments: Zinsky :) We have a lot of sun time. And so, I have seen friends selling electricity even with a battery installed. But with two electric cars u may be right. Especially that we drive one car quite a lot. Bought the first one just a month ago and already has 2,000 miles on it. I charge it every other day.
Comments: With battery, you might not have any extra to sell back to utility. Specially for my area and possibility of weather-related outages.
Comments: What I have noticed about Taremi this year is that his team mates seem to not want to pass to him any more. He is not part of the team like he was last year. His reaction when others score is also different which tells me there is tension.
Comments: Yes, the Battery was $12K! But with two electric cars and a house, I think it was needed. Alternatively, I would have had to install a lot more panels. There are probably differences between CA and MA. For us, it may seems like the price depends on when you sell your electricity. If you sell it at the high demand time, u will get more credit. This is why I think it is good to store the electricity until 4pm, before pumping it back into the grid.

Comments: I didn’t buy the battery back up. It was pretty expensive. With the additional meter installed (net metering), I get credit for extra power produced by the solar system. If I’m not mistaken, I get 85 cents per dollar on the sales of the electricity back to the grid. It comes in monthly credit towards the bill. Based on my own calculations, with solar and hoping for 20 sunny days per month, I should reduce my bill by 90% during the winter. Summer should be interesting. I expect much more solar generation (more sunny days and longer days as well) but more usage due to air conditioning. I have to wait almost a whole year to have a much better understanding of the usage with vs without solar.
