Kahriz 800K is a big surprise to me, Especially that Urumiye is not in the list! Urumiye is much bigger than Kahriz! I think the reality is that Tehram has grown so much that has made Karaj a commuting part of it. Same relationship with Urumiye and Kahriz. In 1979, Kahriz' population was in the 10K range!

I think all those numbers are under reported. I have heard that Tehran is more like 12M (3M in 1979). Tabriz more likely 3M (300K 1979).
