Another loss for Iran Volleyball team. 3-0 against USA. It’s over for them.

500? That is horrible Zinsky. I copied the piece about 20+K refugees have died in the mediteranean since 2014. I wonder what people mean when they say "civilized society"!

Faramarz,
Nearly 500 drowned during this latest accident. Yeah, in America the major news is about 5 people in the submarine.
Social media, on the other hand, has been filled with people who are kind of angry about the fact that someone would pay $millions to go see a ship wreck while others are hungry… I don’t see much sympathy for them!

After refugee boat disaster off Greece, hundreds feared dead

Authorities say they are unlikely to find any more survivors after one of the worst refugee tragedies in Europe.

The United Nations has registered more than 20,000 deaths and disappearances in the central Mediterranean since 2014, making it the most dangerous migrant crossing in the world.

Syrian Kassam Abozeed, 34, who says his wife Israa and brother-in-law were onboard a boat with migrants that capsized at open sea off Greece, demonstrates a photo of him and his wife, at the port of Kalamata, Greece, June 15, 2023. REUTERS/Stelios Misinas

Reporting from Europe. I have landed in two countries and in both there is no sign of the exploded sub that was such a huge story just yesterday in the US. Instead in both countries the big news is the sunk ship of migrants off the coast of Greece. If I understand correctly, 80 people have perished.

Global economic disparity is the biggest disgrace that superpowers have instilled upon humanity. It is the underpinning of all misery including all the wars, dictatorships, exploitation of others and other countries for the extension of the disparity, you name it.

I hope that at least this news is also getting coverage in the US. People there need to be educated about the choices they are making.

Group B: IR Iran seal quarter-final place in style

Pathum Thani: They only needed to avoid defeat in order to progress to the next round, but Islamic Republic of Iran made a statement of intent by defeating Korea Republic on Thursday.
A 2-0 win at the Pathum Thani Stadium in their final Group B match saw the Central Asians seal qualification for the quarter finals of the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023, bumping the already-through Koreans down to second place.
While it was the Koreans who saw most of the ball early on, their opponents were simply biding their time to strike. The first warning sign came when Yaghoob Barajeh tested Hong Seong-min with a tame effort, before Amirmohammad Razaghinia blasted his shot wide from 25 yards.

Hong was then at full stretch to palm away Esmaeil Gholizadeh’s rasping 20-yard drive, as Korea Republic struggled to break down an organised Iran side at the opposite end. Perhaps the seven changes to the starting line-up affected the East Asians’ chemistry, as they were then torn apart twice in two minutes.

Kasra Taheri, whose two goals to date in the tournament were both set up by Nima Andarz, returned the favour in the 18th minute. His flick-on fell into the path of the rampaging right-back, whose low drive squirmed underneath Hong to break the deadlock.

Barely 60 seconds later, it was 2-0. A brilliant backheel from Gholizadeh nutmegged an opponent and found Mahan Sadeghi, who took a touch before leathering the ball across Hong and into the top right corner. The winger became the sixth Iranian to find the back of the net in this tournament - no other team has had more different scorers.

Korea’s only two efforts on target of the half came via long-range efforts from full-backs Lee Su-ro and Seo Jeong-hyeok, which summed up their lack of potency.

They were fortunate not to fall further behind less than a minute into the second half when Taheri took down a long ball and surged into the area, only for captain Kang Min-woo to pull off a last-ditch tackle.

Six minutes later, Gholizadeh had his head in his hands after side footing the ball wide from Taheri’s cut-back.

Yoon Do-young and Kim Myeong-jun - the tournament’s joint-top scorers with three goals - were brought on as Korea sought a way back into the game, but the Iranian goal remained untroubled.

Byun Sung-hwan made all his five changes by the 67th minute and one of them, Park Seung-soo, headed over a decent opportunity shortly after coming on.

There was to be no way through with Yun having a late chance saved as Iran held on to book a quarter-final clash with Yemen on Sunday, while Korea will face Thailand.

I also saw Scotland - Norway and Portugal - Iceland in the airport. Both games were low quality. Ronaldo has lost so many steps! He is real slow. Was he playing like this in england or has he become like this in the few months in Arabia?

Damn this is a good U17 team. There are some good shooters on this team too. Who is the coach? They could have scored a bunch more. When was the last time we beat anyone at U17 level? :)

Iran's U17 is a very good team, I say they play much better than the U23 and have a better prospect ahead of them.
Nima Andarz will be TM's right back in the next world cup, I bet money on it [biggrin]

Iran is doing relatively well in 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup.
They beat S.Korea today to finish 1st in their group. They will play Yemen next in Quarterfinals.
They need one win and then the top 4 teams in the knockout stage will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup as AFC representatives.
