Comments: Iran's national football team remained in 22nd place in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday. Japan will head into the Joint Qualification of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 draw as the continent's highest ranked team. The Samurai Blue remained unchanged at 20 two spots ahead of Iran with Australia five spots further down in 27. Korea Republic, at 28, also stayed in the spot it was in the previous update last month with Saudi Arabia dropping down one spot to 54, completing the top five ranked Asian sides. Similarly, 2023 AFC Asian Cup host Qatar and China PR both dropped one spot to 59 and 80 respectively. The next World Ranking will be published on September 21.

Comments: One group within this regime is getting tired of being pushed around by another group. That is always bad for establishment. Division within the top is the only way to break the system. I think Sepah wants better relationships with the west and less nuclear problems. I don’t mean the whole Sepah but a subset. They want nothing to do with Islam and want full access to deal with the rest of the world as they wish. Another group sees Islam and all other BS that comes with it as the only salvation. Slowly but surely it is becoming a war between these groups. It will get even more ugly before getting any better.

Comments: I think there are signs of a crack showing up in Iran's power structure. While there are live negotiation between the US and some parts of the Iranian power structure, others are trying to derail these talks. Among the items on the table are the unfreezing of the blocked money in Bahrain and Iraq for the Iranian government. But what I think came as a surprise are things like this https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2023/07/21/exp-iran-detainee-cnni-world.cnn, that may be orchestrated by some elements in the government or Sepah. This struggle has been ongoing since Rafsanjani's time. We will have to see how this unfolds.
