fAKe lol, I finished my research and Iran is indeed the first and only Asian team to beat any Brazilian team in an official WC match at any level.

By the way, Iran U17 did really well in 2017 as well. They beat some big names and lost to Spain in Quarterfinals.

Final ranking[edit]

As per statistical convention in football, matches decided in extra time are counted as wins and losses, while matches decided by penalty shoot-outs are counted as draws.

Thats too much info!!!

Basically, finishing 2nd in the group might be our best bet. Finishing 3rd will not be good going forward but I take it over being eliminated!

Iran played both games very similarly. Defend and counter with speed. It worked better with Brazil as our goalie was the MVP of the game. He made a bad mistake in 90th minute of England game that cause us to lose the game.

Overall, England seemed better than Brazil, but it could have been also the fact that they watched the game we played against Brazil and realized Iran is no push over!!!

By the way, Zinsky since you have looked into this, does it matter whether we advance as the first, second, or third team of the group? Will there be a draw for the next round?

Comments:
Zinsky, Farid, I am traveling overseas and so, apologies for the delayed response. IMO, in order for me to take the win against Brazil seriously, TM needs to do at least one of the following things:

1. Beat another good team, or at least come very close to tying them. May be they did this with england (I have not watched the game).

2. Seriously beat on a weaker team, like 10 goals against the Caledonian team.

If they do not do one of the two, I would say that either Brazil was not good enough, which I do not think was the case, or that TM just got lucky. I am hoping that this was not simply luck. And, hope that at least we can beat on Caledonia.

Comments:
Israel’s use of white phosphorus in military operations in Gaza and Lebanon puts civilians at risk of serious and long-term injuries, Human Rights Watch said today in releasing a question and answer document on white phosphorus. Human Rights Watch verified videos taken in Lebanon and Gaza on October 10 and 11, 2023, respectively, showing multiple airbursts of artillery-fired white phosphorus over the Gaza City port and two rural locations along the Israel-Lebanon border, and interviewed two people who described an attack in Gaza.
White phosphorus, which can be used either for marking, signaling, and obscuring, or as a weapon to set fires that burn people and objects, has a significant incendiary effect that can severely burn people and set structures, fields, and other civilian objects in the vicinity on fire. The use of white phosphorus in Gaza, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, magnifies the risk to civilians and violates the international humanitarian law prohibition on putting civilians at unnecessary risk.
“Any time that white phosphorus is used in crowded civilian areas, it poses a high risk of excruciating burns and lifelong suffering,” said Lama Fakih, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “White phosphorous is unlawfully indiscriminate when airburst in populated urban areas, where it can burn down houses and cause egregious harm to civilians.”

Farid,
I think and hope England beats Brazil. It will make our chances almost certain. England is a very strong team. They have many good young players and very organized.
Our team needs to win and win big but I am not sure if we are prepared for that type of game. This team was prepared to defend and counter as needed. We need to win and I think we will but scoring 10+ goals is not what this team is trained for.

Congratulations to the U17 team to make history. I do not think it is important that we lost to England. I think TM will be able to score many goals against New Caledonia and qualify at least as the second team. I think Brazil will beat England.

Yes this was a very good England team. Al of their players are from the academies of the top clubs in Europe.
Their #11 was dancing around the right side of Iran for the entire match and scored the winner in the 90th. He was their best player!

Hard to distinguish this team from an African team. Pretty good, solid team.

The boys did well with their hit and run(cheriki) tactics again today. But the weather was not cooperating and in the heavy rain the accuracy of their quick defense busting long passes suffered.

The boys from the miserable rainy little island loved this weather and won, barely. But $10K-20K vatani coach did better than the $2M CQ and only lost by one goal [biggrin]
