Shahryar jAn this statement is pretty sad: "Asian Cup is a good place to test and even perhaps train our team members."

But it is true. In an ideal situation we shoudl have done all of this prior to these games, but in every tournament, we find ourselves in the same situation.

I still can't get over the fact that we brought in a new coach two months before the World Cup!

In regards to our first game against Palestine, I did not see it of course and didn't really have the time or means to do it. But I did see the highlights Zinsky provided (thanks :)

It seemed to me that the team had the typical first-game jitters, which was not unexpected. Also, I saw a relatively strong and physical Palestine team, which may in fact make it to the next round.  Our team did well, although Taremi seemed to be not quite in tournament shape. He at least is not clicking with the team, which should improve in the next two games. 

I expect us to ordvance in first place, but I also feel that we will have difficulties against other more physically fit teams, such as Japan and Korea.

I agree with your statements below describing the difference between how Iran Football federation behaves versus Korea, or Japan for that matter. 

I believe there is a good reason for doing so however. Both Korea's and Japan's main team players get to play together a lot and get to practice against excellent teams, such as Argentina and Brazil. This is because, they have money, and spend that money wisely, and especially since their country (and football team) is not subject to political sanctions.

For Iran, we do not have those opportunities frankly, and the Asian Cup is a good place to test and even perhaps train our team members.

Regarding Ghaedi, he has a lot of dribbling talent for sure. What I saw from him, especially during the goal scene is what I had not seen from him before. So, he has added to his arsenal. This is his calmness and not always resorting to his dribbling skills to get to a goal. He saw the opening and took a carefully calculated shot from a distance. The old Ghaedi would have run this into the box. a welcome addition to his arsenal, IMO.

The big difference between Korea and Iran is that Korea typically brings in an overhaul to the team and tests it out during the Asian Cup in preparation for the World Cup. Iran on the other hand brings in all its big guns in the hope of the cup. but then we never wins the cup any way. I would have liked to see Sardar and may be Taremi left behind from this squad. If Taremi included, only for the purpose of leadership and play maker playing in the midfield (if we have a shortage there), and not in his specialty position in the role of a striker.

For this team as it is, I would say that reaching the quarter final is an over achievement. Anything beyond that is the icing on the cake and may speak to the competency of coaching. We'll see.

تیم ملی فوتبال کره جنوبی نیز که مانند ایران چند دهه است نتوانسته عنوان قهرمانی جام ملت های آسیا را به خود اختصاص دهد، امروز دوشنبه در اولین دیدار خود به مصاف تیم ملی بحرین و در حالی که بازی را یک به یک دنبال می کرد در نهایت توانست از سد این حریف سه بر یک عبور کند و گام اول را با پیروزی بردارد.

The right thing to do for Iran after they scored the 3rd goal considering the death of the brother of the Palestinian player was to empty the bench like get the hell out of here we don’t want anyone on the bench. Just substitute 8 people in like no forwards. Have Moghamloo play as a center back. If AFC only allows 5 subs then screw them we can deal with it later. Actually why did we score 4 goals? Why did we score so quickly?

مدافع باتجربه ایران در دقیقه 43 مسابقه با فلسطین با تکل خشنی که بازیکن حریف روی پایش زد سرنگون شد و از ناحیه مچ پای چپ به شدت آسیب دید. خلیل‌زاده به واسطه همین مصدومیت نتوانست به بازی ادامه بدهد و در دقایق پایانی نیمه نخست جای خود را به مجید حسینی داد.
موضوعی که نگرانی‌ها درباره وضعیت شجاع را بیشتر کرد، عبارتی بود که او موقع بیرون آمدن از زمین بر زبان آورد؛ لبخوانی از صحبت او اینطور می‌رساند که می‌گوید: «مچم بد پیچید».
پزشکان تیم ملی خلیل‌زاده را در بیرون رفتن از زمین همراهی کردند و بازیکنان ایران نیز از لحظه مصدومیت تا موقع نشستن روی نیمکت کنار او بودند و دلداری‌اش می‌دادند. ابتدا همراه با پزشکان علیرضا بیرانوند بالای سرش رفت و در ادامه مهدی طارمی و سایر بازیکنان او را در آغوش گرفتند و برایش آرزوی بهبودی کردند.

Reuters – AL RAYYAN, Iran beat Palestine 4-1 in their Asian Cup Group C opener on Sunday at the Education City Stadium where a show of solidarity by Iranian fans and players was quickly followed by a football masterclass from the three-times champions.
Goals from Karim Ansarifard, Shoja Khalilzadeh, Mehdi Ghayedi and Sardar Azmoun gave Iran all three points while Tamer Seyam scored a consolation for Palestine, who are still seeking their first win at the Asian Cup.
Huge cheers greeted the Palestine squad before their national anthem was played as the Iranian fans showed solidarity with their Middle Eastern counterparts, with some holding the Iran flag side-by-side with the Palestine colours.
A moment’s silence was also held before the game for the loss of lives in the Israel-Palestinian conflict which has raged on for 100 days and killed nearly 24,000 Palestinians according to health authorities in Hamas-run Gaza.
The latest conflict in a war that has rumbled on for seven decades began after the devastating Hamas attack on Oct. 7, in which Israel says about 1,200 people were killed and around 240 taken hostage.
“I thank all the fans that were in the stadium, the Iranian fans, the Qatari fans, the Arab fans, everyone who supported Palestine,” Palestine coach Makram Daboub told reporters.
“It was a lot of support for Palestine and the cause, we thank them and hope the support continues in the next game.”
But once the referee blew the whistle for kickoff, Iran got straight down to business and opened the scoring in the second minute when Saman Ghoddos played the ball to Ansarifard, who curled his shot past the keeper into the far corner.
Iran doubled their lead from a set piece with Ghoddos the provider yet again, his floating cross to the far post finding Khalilzadeh who smartly turned the ball into the net to make it 2-0 in the 12th minute.
TACTICALLY SUPERIOR
Iran were technically and tactically superior to the Palestinians, who barely managed to get out of their own half at times, and they conceded a third before the break when Ghayedi found the bottom corner from a flowing move.
Palestine did not test Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand until the last minute of first-half stoppage time when they finally got on the board from a set piece where Seyam scored with a close range header.
But Iran shut down any hopes of a comeback after the break when substitute Azmoun made it 4-1 while VAR intervened late in the game to overturn a straight red card for Palestinian defender Mohammed Saleh who made a last-man tackle.
Although the Palestinians managed to mount a couple of promising attacks, Iran held firm to go top of the group while Palestine are bottom.
Despite notching up the biggest win of the tournament so far, Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei was not entirely impressed with his team’s performance.
“The first match is difficult, we’re happy with the result but not the quality of the performance. Scoring early made it easier for us,” he said.
“I’m satisfied with the players, but in general we expect more from them.”
Earlier in the first Group C game, the United Arab Emirates beat Hong Kong 3-1 thanks to penalties from Sultan Alamiri and Yahya Al-Ghassani while Zayed Sultan also got on the scoresheet. Chan Siu Kwan was Hong Kong’s lone goal scorer.
