Saudi Arabia is much worse than they used to be! And the worst thing happened to them. A fluke PK and now Branko's Oman is defending with 11 man!

Shahryar,

I know people who want TM failing as the result of being associated with IRI.

I personally would like to separate the sport & politics, if possible. I understand that some coaches and players are probably handpicked by IRI but again, to me, they represent Iran Team Meli, no matter what.

Zinsky,

That is true; I mis-read and mis-understood it. IRI will take credit wherever it can find it, lol.

Shahryar,
By “good for IRI”, I mean they would take credit for it.

Zinsky,

I do not think that TM wins necessarily equate good news for IRI. If you remember, a few years ago, IRI was doing its best to make sure TM doesn't win, since at least they thought it would lead to more protests in the streets.

Regardless, TM wins are good things for us as a source of pride. And we should not underestimate IRI; although I do not agree with 95% of what they do, they have survived for over 40 years against all odds, of course at the price of alienating the entire proud nation of Iran. But nevertheless, they know how to deal with the West, Asia and even China and Russia. I just hoped they would think more about their own people than strangers that would throw us under a bus in a New Your minute.

We, as Iranians, have a hard time separating Iran from IRI in many respects. Most of us want to see TM win every single game but at the same time, winning means good news for IRI!
I know many people who hate GN for his connections with the system. I’m not a big fan myself but again, he is the coach of TM!
I can live with him doing well as a coach of TM even if I don’t like him personally.

Thanks lol for posting that video, narrated by the English man. It was very nice of him and informative that other people in the West still care about human life.

TEHRAN, Iran national football team iconic player Saman Ghoddos says that the match against Palestine is finished and they just need to focus on their next game.
Saman spoke exclusively to the Tehran Times reporter in Qatar, discussing the highlights of the game and his excellent performance.
“We respect all the teams and all the teams are here for a reason. We respect them, they will make it difficult for us so we would like to play as good as possible,” he said about Palestine and also about Iran’s next opponents Hong Kong.
Asked him what did the coach say after the game, Ghoddos said, “Nothing special, to be honest. We will talk probably when we go to the hotel and tomorrow we will have a meeting but right now after the game we didn’t speak so much about the game.
Are Iran the main favorites of the tournament?
“There are too many games left that we don’t need to think about them now. We just need to focus on our next game which is against Hong Kong and then we’ll see where we go.
“I don’t see myself as a star, I just see myself as a team player, where there are other stars of the team which I rely on them. We have a very good squad. We have a couple of superb stars in the team. I’ll try to play as good as possible for them and they need to win the game for us and I will try to make them to win the game for us,” Ghoddos concluded.
