I suppose we could also predict if TM gets the visa to come to America. As of today, 10 days before the 1st game, they don’t have the visa. FIFA is a piece of shit for allowing this.

Slovenia’s new PM removes Palestinian flag in pro-Israel shift

Slovenia’s new right-wing Prime Minister Janez Jansa ordered the Palestinian flag removed from the main government building in Ljubljana less than an hour after taking office, signalling a sharp pro-Israel turn in the country’s foreign policy.

The flag had flown there for two years under his predecessor, Robert Golob, whose government accused Israel of violating international law and committing “clear genocidal acts” in Gaza.

Golob’s government made Slovenia the first European Union member to ban all weapons trade with Israel. It also recognised Palestine as an independent state, declared two Israeli ministers personae non gratae and aligned itself with Ireland, Spain and Norway on Palestinian statehood.

Jansa, a close ally of US President Donald Trump and Israel, is expected to reverse several of those measures, including recognition of Palestine.

Israel quickly welcomed the shift. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Israel would open its first embassy in Ljubljana “without delay.”

Azerbaijan rejects CNN report on Israeli forces using its territory against Iran

Azerbaijan has rejected a CNN report claiming that Israel secretly deployed military and intelligence personnel on its territory for operations against Iran, calling the allegations “completely unfounded.”

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Azerbaijan has repeatedly denied such claims and that its official position was communicated to CNN in advance of the article’s publication. It accused the network of relying on anonymous sources and disregarding Baku’s official response, saying this contradicted “the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and professional ethics of journalism.”

“We have never permitted and will never permit such activities,” the statement said, adding that Azerbaijan is committed to promoting peace, stability, and good neighborly relations in the region.

The ministry demanded that CNN retract the article.

The CNN report claimed that Israel deployed several dozen elite troops and Mossad personnel to locations in southern Azerbaijan near the Iranian border during the recent war with Iran. The report alleged that the forces conducted intelligence-gathering and drone operations, and that one of the operations launched from Azerbaijani territory was the March 4 killing of a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intelligence commander.

Iran accuses US, Israel of war crimes over 17 attacks on nuclear facilities

Iran has called on the international community to adopt a “zero-tolerance policy” toward armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities, telling a special meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors that the United States and Israel carried out 17 waves of strikes against Iranian safeguarded nuclear sites in 2025 and 2026.

In a statement, Iran’s delegation said one of the gravest attacks targeted a structure just 350 meters from the reactor at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, which contains thousands of kilograms of nuclear material. The IAEA Director General has previously said a direct hit on the plant could result in a “very high release of radioactivity to the environment.”

Iran said the attacks constitute war crimes and acts of aggression, entailing international responsibility and individual criminal liability for the perpetrators. It recalled that UN Security Council Resolution 487 (1981) condemned a previous Israeli attack on an Iraqi nuclear facility and obliged Israel to refrain from any such acts in the future.

The United States has opposed two previous IAEA General Conference resolutions on prohibiting attacks on nuclear installations, both proposed by Iran, the statement said.

According to FIFA's official announcement, every team that has qualified for the 2026 World Cup benefits from two guaranteed payments before the start of the tournament: 10 million dollars as a qualification reward and 2.5 million dollars as a preparation allowance.
This means that even the weakest team present in the World Cup, without earning even a single point, will receive a guaranteed 12.5 million dollars from FIFA.
But the story does not end with this figure.
FIFA has defined separate rewards for each stage of progression in the 2026 World Cup.
Teams that finish in 33rd to 48th place will receive another 9 million dollars. Teams ranked 17th to 32nd will get 11 million dollars in performance rewards, and teams ranked 9th to 16th will receive another 15 million dollars.
This process continues until the final, where the champion team will receive 50 million dollars as a final reward.
In this way, a team eliminated in the group stage receives a total of 21.5 million dollars from FIFA, and the champion team can earn more than 62 million dollars.
The important point here is that, contrary to common perception, this money is not directly linked to television broadcasting rights or pitchside advertising. Revenue from the sale of broadcasting rights and official World Cup advertisements belongs directly to FIFA and is later distributed among teams in the form of rewards and financial assistance.
FIFA also does not pay a separate reward for each win or draw, as it did in past editions. Teams' revenue increases based on the stage at which they are eliminated or to which they progress, as well as the rank they achieve.
For a federation that has faced financial crisis, debt, sanctions, and money transfer problems for years, such figures are not just a football reward; they are a major source of foreign currency revenue.

I believe the last game against Egypt will turn out to be the game to determine the fate of the 2nd team from our group. We don’t have a great record of winning the 3rd game when needed. Last WC, we needed a tie against US and we couldn’t do that either.
NZ seems to be the team to beaten by all teams. Belgium could and possibly would win all 3 games. The fight for 2nd place will be between Iran and Egypt.

My predictions are based on historical statistics. Iran has usually done well in their 2nd game:

1978 - Iran1 - Scotland 1
1998 - Iran 2- USA 1
2006 - Iran 0 - Portugal 2
2014 - Iran 0 - Argentina 1
2018 - Iran 0 - Spain 1
2022 - Iran 2 - Wales 0

That's 3 wins and 3 losses, we are due for a tie [biggrin]
My predictions:

Iran 4 - NZ 0
Iran 1 - Belgium 1
Iran 0 - Egypt 0
