Comments: Agha Rashti: "كيرم به طاقي" ???
Comments: We played so emotional. And again there was some of that passing to each other instead of shooting! Ghodoos had an open goal in front of him in the first hand and instead of shooting just crossed the ball to the other side where no one was! Mentally we were not there. Very poor preparation.
Comments: We dominated in stats but the bottom line is their superstar, Akram Afif, delivered with a super goal when it counted and our stars did not! The other 4 goals were just accidental.
Comments: Not that it matters but
Comments: After many drinks, I am thinking clearly now! We did well the 2nd half and could have won this game if we would just score on so many chances. Overall in this tournament, defense was weak but decent enough to keep us going. Offense was supposed to be our strength. We did create many chances. Much more than many others but just couldn’t score the easy ones. For whatever reason we just missed really easy opportunities. Another disappointing tournament for TM fans. By now we should get used to it but we hope. Hope is very dangerous!
Comments: Monday morning quarterbacking: Ghaeidi should have come in. He would have at least drawn another PK.
Comments: Looks like Taremi was too frustrated and wanted to get it on with Qatari fans at the end of the match ![]()
Comments: I had made the below assessment of our team's performances in this tournament ealrier and want to add to it, since we had two more games since then. Against Japan, and today against Qatar.
Comments: Here is my assessment of the games we played so far in this tournament: Against Quality Rating Result (1 to 10) Palestine Good 6.0 Win (4-1) Hong Kong Bad 3.5 Win (1-0) UAE Very Good 7.5 Win (2-1) Syria Awful 2.0 Draw (1-1) (perfect PKs) Japan Exceptional 9.0 Win (2-1) Qatar Above Average 5.5 Loss (2-3) Regardless of our results, where puts us in the Quarter Finals, none of the earlier performances is good enough to beat Japan. In fact we have to step up quite a bit even from the UAE game to beat Japan. Now, without Taremi, which I think is the heart of our team, this is substantially more arduous, if not impossible. There is one possibility, which is that our team steps up a lot for their leader (Taremi), since he feels guilty for getting kicked out, and on order to save him, they play their best in the tournament, like they did during the penalties today. In fact, I think Taremi;s involvement with PKs at the end helped them do so well. So, for Taremi, we may actually step up and be able to beat Japan.
Comments: Yes we were definitely stunted doctor 😂
Comments: I will write more but one of the things that has plagued our football is the lack of experience internationally. Players are just stunted and like the commentator said affected by the external factors. The ref was of course horribly bias and did not make a number of obvious things including two PKs in the first half. But we knew this was going to happen and still were not mentally prepared for it. Among the players, I though Ghodoos and EzatollAhi had a particularly poor day. Overall, this is as far as I thought we'd go. The game against Japan was an aberration. The rest were below what we should be capable of.
Comments: Good observations LOL, on both accounts. The problem we always seem to face is mental preparation. This comes from lack of exposure to world football. Japan and Korea and even Arabia do not have this problem. They spend a lot of money and effort to remedy that. It is also coaching issues. CQ was excellent at preparing us mentally. The team respected him and had confidence in his abilities and listened to him and followed his instruction, which is why we had so much success under CQ. The same does not apply to GN, since there is no real substance there and the players know that, so there is no respect for him. This of course also hurts the team, but it is the responsibility of our federation to get us the right leadership, not the players.
Comments: Overall this was a successful tournament for us. We went out in the semis just like 4 years ago but this time we put up a great fight and really deserved to win. From top 5 teams in Asia Iran had the best showing and should get back the #1 spot in Asia from Japan. Now on to more excitements in March 21 & 26 for WC qualifying
Comments: GN listened to my advice and started Hajisafi and Taremi but he made the mistake of keeping Omid and not starting Mohhebi. He corrected his mistake at halftime but the damge had been done by then. The turning point in the game was very early in the match before Iran scores. Bayranvand made a very bad pass that the Qataris almost intercepted and that was when GN instructed him to just kick the ball. That took Iran out of the their game plan to build up their atatck from the backline and ended up playing a direct game that Qatar could handle since the high balls was 50/50 now and no 80/20 like the Japan match. The other turning point was Taremi going down on the one-on-one after the first goal with a slight touch and hoping for a foul. Qatar ended up scoring on the follow up. Taremi should have done much better and scored, I think he was our lowest rated player today. |
