Comments: Helicopter carrying Iran’s hard-line president apparently crashes in foggy, mountainous regionDUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the country’s foreign minister and other officials apparently crashed in the mountainous northwest reaches of Iran on Sunday, sparking a massive rescue operation in a fog-shrouded forest as the public was urged to pray. The likely crash came as Iran under Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei launched an unprecedented drone-and-missile attack on Israel last month and has enriched uranium closer than ever to weapons-grade levels. Iran has also faced years of mass protests against its Shiite theocracy over an ailing economy and women’s rights — making the moment that much more sensitive for Tehran and the future of the country as the Israel-Hamas war inflames the wider Middle East. Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said what it called a “hard landing” happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Later, state TV put it farther east near the village of Uzi, but details remained contradictory.
Comments: Weather aside, Old helicopter and technical problems are all possibilities.

Comments: National Security advisor Sullivan is currently meeting with Mammad Arreh to discuss regional developments. They also are finalizing SA-US agreement. 1. My questions are what regional development? That Iran can attack Israel and iron dome is bupkis or Iran has the bomb, but SA should not stress out. :) 2. What does SA-US agreement includes? a coalition for SA like they presented for Israel in terms of air defense for Iranian missiles? or A nuclear program for SA?

Comments: And the US has Trump to thank for the Nuclear Iran! I wonder what the idiot is going to do in his next four years.
Comments: Already there. Rumors has it the reason Israel didn’t retaliate in its usual way was because it was told the next response from IRI could include nuclear ☢️
Comments: Are you saying we are entering the era of nuclear Iran?
Comments: Agha Faramarz, I call BS on this report. Iran has already produced at least one bomb worth of highly enriched uranium, ie couple of Kilograms. And has about 5 bombs worth of 63% enriched uranium that can quickly be spun up to highly enriched material. If there was a meeting, it was cuz US now knows n IRI hinted in it’s ability to deliver it to our favorite son, Israel .
Comments: May 17, 2024 - Politics & Policy Scoop: U.S., Iran held indirect talks this week on avoiding more attacksTwo top Biden administration officials held indirect talks with Iranian officials in Oman this week on how to avoid escalating regional attacks, two sources with knowledge of the talks told Axios. Why it matters: The talks — involving President Biden's top Middle East adviser, Brett McGurk, and Abram Paley the acting U.S. envoy for Iran — were the first round of discussions between the U.S. and Iran since January, when similar negotiations were held in Oman.
Driving the news: Iran fired 350 ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel in retaliation for Israel's assassination of Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a top Iranian Quds Force general in charge of that nation's military operations in Lebanon and Syria.
Iran's attack was defeated in an unprecedented joint air and missile defense effort by Israel, the U.S., the U.K., France, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
The big picture: One of the Biden administration's main goals since Oct. 7 has been to prevent the Gaza conflict from leading to a regional war.
Behind the scenes: McGurk and Paley arrived in Oman on Tuesday and met with Omani mediators, the sources said.
What they're saying: Vedant Patel, the State Department's deputy spokesperson, said Monday the Biden administration has ways to communicate with Iran when necessary.
