Comments: Most Iranians didn’t vote. Most are not in favor of Pezeshkian but see him as “better than the rest”! Over a million voted for nobody! That was more than votes for the bottom 2 candidates, combined. 2nd round will be more interesting. The system doesn’t really want Pezeshkian, even though, he is part of the establishment. They will go out of their way to make sure he doesn’t win. Once again, he is nothing to cheer about. In conclusion, Pezeshkian will more than likely lose by a small margin. Nothing will change.

Comments: The interesting thing is that all the other candidates have endorsed Jalili. So, Pezeshkian is on his own! Interesting dynamics. This may energize some to vote for Pezeshkian.
Comments: Big question is what the system do for the 2nd round? Good possibility that turn out would be even lower. Will they let the so called moderate win the presidency? Does it matter?
Comments: More than 1 million votes were voided, according to the results, typically a sign of people feeling obligated to cast a ballot but not wanting to select any of the candidates. The overall turnout was 39.9%, according to the results. The 2021 presidential election that elected Raisi saw a 48.8% turnout, while the March parliamentary election saw a 40.6% turnout.
Comments: Lowest turnout so far! About 40%.
Comments: Presidential race heads to run-off as no candidate secures majority, Interior Ministry announces. Masoud Pezeshkian (10.4 million) and Saeed Jalili (9.5 million) the top two after just over 24.5 million votes counted. The second round of voting pitting Pezeshkian and Jalili is scheduled to take place on Friday. The candidate with the highest number of votes is declared winner and the next president of Iran. This is only the second time since the 1979 revolution that a presidential election has gone to a second round. Three other conservative candidates have backed Jalili but Pezeshkian’s biggest opponent may still be another record low turnout. Finishing third in the first round, Speaker of the Parliament Ghalibaf had a disappointing showing in the election. In a lengthy statement, he called on his supporters to back Jalili on Friday. “The path is not finished yet and despite personally respecting Dr Pezeshkian, due to my concerns about some of the people around him, I am calling on all revolutionary forces and my backers to help prevent the return to power of the movement that caused an important part of our economic and political problems today,” he wrote. Ghalibaf added that he was glad he took part in the election even though “political sensibility” signalled that he must remain in his position as parliament speaker. He claimed his candidacy “provided an opportunity for the revolutionary movement in the second round of the election”.
