Let’s recap what happened last time. It started in China. Many people were screaming how bad Iran handled the pandemic. They let Chinese flights to land in Iran. There were dead bodies everywhere. Then it spread to Europe and eventually to US. The same people charged their tone. It wasn’t too bad! Numbers were not correct and people were dying from other causes but reported as COVID. We should have not asked people to mask up or stay home. Europe did a much better job!
I certainly hope this is not anything like COVID and the world learned few lessons from that!
Overall, Iran did bad, Europe did good and US should have just let it be!

Cristian Medina scored the equalizer in the 16th added minute as Argentina came from two down to draw 2-2 with Morocco on the opening day of men's Olympic football action on Wednesday, while Spain edged Uzbekistan 2-1.

Argentina is looking to win men's football gold in Paris for the third time after previous successes in 2004 and 2008, but Javier Mascherano's side looked set to get off to a losing start in Saint-Etienne.

They trailed 2-0 in the Group B game to a Soufiane Rahimi brace for Morocco but did pull one back through Giuliano Simeone before Medina finished off a crazy move right at the death.

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain full-back who is one of the biggest names featuring in the tournament, set up forward Rahimi for the opener at the end of a fine move in first-half stoppage time.

The reigning African Under-23 champions doubled their lead six minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, UAE-based forward Rahimi stroking in the spot-kick after Ilias Akhomach was brought down.

Argentina coach Mascherano, who starred in the teams that won gold in Athens and Beijing, had at one point hoped to persuade Lionel Messi to feature among the three permitted overage players in his squad otherwise limited to those under 23.

Messi opted not to come to the Games, and the biggest names in their side here were Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez and captain Nicolas Otamendi, the Benfica defender.

Simeone, son of former Argentina star Diego, came off the bench to pull one back midway through the second half, and Medina saved a point in the 106th minute.

Otamendi's shot was turned onto the bar by the goalkeeper and Bruno Amione headed the follow-up off the woodwork, but Medina was on hand to make it third time lucky and secure a draw.

Group B rivals Iraq and Ukraine meet later in Lyon.

- Gomez makes amends -

Silver medallists in Tokyo three years ago, Spain were made to work hard to beat Uzbekistan in their Group C opener at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino was among the spectators watching a Spain side featuring two members of their Euro 2024-winning squad in Alex Baena of Villarreal and Barcelona's Fermin Lopez.

Spain went ahead just before the half-hour mark when Sergio Gomez's free-kick was helped on by Abel Ruiz to the back post where Marc Pubill turned the ball in.

However, Uzbekistan had chances and drew level from the penalty spot in first-half added time.

Pau Cubarsi was penalised for a foul in the box following a VAR review, and Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov, the Roma forward, converted the penalty.

Cubarsi, the 17-year-old Barcelona prodigy, had been booked early in the game and did not reappear for the second half.

Spain got a penalty of their own for a foul on Aimar Oroz, but Gomez's kick was saved by goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov.

However, Gomez made up for that by grabbing what proved to be the winner just after the hour mark.

Juan Miranda cut the ball back from the byline for Gomez -- who has just joined Real Sociedad from Manchester City -- to fire in.

Spain are in Group C with Egypt and the Dominican Republic.

The pick of Wednesday's later games will see hosts France face the United States in Marseille in Group A, with Thierry Henry's team hoping to win a medal despite failing in their attempts to enrol the services of Kylian Mbappe.

Trump says he would 'absolutely' debate Harris, but he's 'not thrilled' with ABC
Trump and President Joe Biden had agreed to two debates, one in June on CNN and the other in September on ABC. Trump had suggested that Fox News host a debate instead.

I’m personally not crazy about Harris’s politics but these personal attacks are just ugly and could backfire. Overall, she is still losing to Trump in states that matter. Polls are showing improvements for democrats but not good enough yet. I wonder if it changes after a possible debate & VP choices.

Reza,
I have always used the Cuban example as a reference to what people hope for but don’t realize it has nothing to do with the president. The real foreign policies have been decided and will continue without input from presidents. If adjustments are needed, it will happen but again, it has nothing to do with this president or the next one or the next!
Shol kon, seft kon policies are to distract citizens. The end goal remains the same. If they want a change, they don’t wait for a president to act.

Agha Zinsky I saw your post on Iranian republicans. To be honest I do not consider them really republicans because of several things:

1. they are all shahollahis n on the surface this means nothing but becoming part of a political party n belief because of the ties to another in another country has all sorts of alarms all over it

2. they r uneducated. they have no clue what republican values r n not paying taxes is not one of them. minimal government is n even this will collect taxes n only the crazy conspiration theorist on the extreme side of trump republicans believe taxes r illegal

3. their loyalty to republican party is based on a dream. they think republicans will undo iri which is crazy talk

these shahollahies r like the bitter castro enemies in the us who vote republican for the past 60+ years hoping a us led coup n that is the only reason they vote republican

I do not think overall numbers mean anything. Hilleray lost with millions ahead. What matters is the numbers in a handful of swing states. Harris is going to lose those states because of Biden

If you actually believe in polls, democrats should be happier than 3 days ago!
Harris and Trump are statistically tied
In a head-to-head matchup, Trump gets 46%, while Harris is at 45%, with 9% undecided. In Marist’s survey earlier this month, just 2% were undecided between Trump and Biden. The poll of 1,309 adults was conducted Monday via online research panels. It has a +/- 3.2 percentage point margin of error, meaning results could be roughly 3 points higher or lower.
In a five-way contest, Trump and Harris each get 42%, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulls in 7%, the lowest since Marist has been testing him since April, and independent Cornel West and the Green Party’s Jill Stein get just 1%.
Notably, Harris holds onto Gen Z/Millennial voters and nonwhite voters more so than Biden was able to when the contest moves from a head-to-head with Trump to one with third-party choices. Earlier this month, Biden declined 13 points with those younger voters and 10 points with nonwhite voters. Harris, on the other hand, largely retains her support with those groups.

Someone was listening to me!!![biggrin]

WASHINGTON—As the administration’s most ardent senior-level advocate of securing a cease-fire in Gaza, Vice President Kamala Harris’s elevation to the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer now puts her in a stronger position to advocate for a shift in U.S. policy toward Israel and to carry out those changes should she win in November.

Though Harris has been careful not to contradict Biden, she has often pushed the envelope of the administration’s messaging on the Israel-Gaza conflict. She has at times advocated forcefully, and ahead of other administration officials, for limiting civilian casualties and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

“I think she will be more inclined to find other ways to put pressure on Israel if the situation in Gaza does not dramatically improve,” said Ivo Daalder, who served as NATO ambassador during the Obama administration and is well connected with Biden aides.

Harris’s Middle East views will be in the spotlight this week when she and Biden meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan is for Harris to have her own separate meeting with the Israeli leader, according to an aide to Harris. She won’t be in Washington for his high-stakes speech to Congress because she will be traveling to Indianapolis for a previously scheduled event.

During the meeting, Harris is expected to tell Netanyahu that “it is time for the war to end in a way where Israel is secure, all hostages are released, the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can enjoy their right to dignity, freedom, and self-determination,” the aide said.

Harris is likely to focus on securing the nomination this week and will want to steer clear of any confrontation with Netanyahu, analysts said, not least so as to avoid opening herself up to any criticism that she is weak on Israel.

Harris’s relationship with Netanyahu will be very different than that of Biden, who has sparred with the Israeli prime minister but also has decades of experience in dealing with him, a U.S. official said.
