Comments: I’m having the same issues thinking about Portugal or Spain playing us to get better prepared for Asian teams. I’m still hoping for TM to secure couple of games with playoff teams from Europe. Either one of the English speaking countries other than England itself or Easter European teams. As far as African teams, we should arrange one or two but again, too many issues with any deals! We shall see. I’m not sure if any games would help this team/coach! GN would not be happy with another loss to a 3rd rated team. Also, more and more fans are getting ready to start the “BeSharaf” slogans based on the people I talked to in LA/San Diego! I would somehow understand boycotting the team but spending $1,000 or so to go shit on TM!?!? I was hoping to go see one game in LA with old friends living in SoCal but no luck so far. Maybe by then, they would sell me the tickets at face value!
Comments: I also doubt very much that they will manage to arrange a friendly with Portugal and Spain for all the reasons Zinsky posted yesterday. Here is my hope: Two friendlies with low-level African or Asian team. The second likely possibility is that we will have only one friendly with a team like Oman and we will hear all sorts of arguments about how they resemble Egypt. I think of Ghandali as a person like Trump. They both know they are not qualified for their jobs. So, any real evaluation of their competence will be avoided. Remember Trump refused to debate after the cat and dog eating incidence? These friendlies are like the debates for GN. They will refresh everyone's mind on his incompetence at a time when everyone is thinking a new coach. So, my eyes do not drink water about any real friendlies.

According to Taj, an agreement with the Portuguese federation should be signed within days. He also revealed there is a “possibility” of arranging a friendly with Spain national football team next April in Doha. Beyond those two, Iran is reportedly in talks with other European sides — including Scotland and Iceland national football teams — to set up friendlies as part of the final run-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For that tournament, Iran are drawn into a tricky Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand national football teams, according to Tehran Times. With strong preparation matches on the horizon, Team Melli will hope to sharpen their tactics, test their squad depth and build momentum. As Taj noted, facing top European nations before the World Cup could prove crucial in helping Iran compete at the highest level when the group-stage lights go on next summer.

Comments: Iran had this issue before and will continue to have it again. No decent European country wants to have a friendly game with Iran. More than just politics of it, the whole financial situation is making it worse. Each of these games involve millions of dollars to arrange. With no real banking system and all the sanctions, moving money around is a huge problem. We should try to look at Turkey, Russia, some other Eastern European countries for possible friendly games. African countries should be easier to arrange friendlies.
